DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS

The Town of Bracebridge is Muskoka’s fastest growing urban municipality with a current population of more than 16,000 that increases to over 30,000 during the summer months. Bracebridge is located in “the Heart of Muskoka” and is world-renowned for its pristine natural environment. The Town, which encompasses an area of more than 62,000 hectares, has a diversified economic base with numerous educational, social, recreational and cultural resources that afford citizens a unique quality of life.

Under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Public Works will strategically plan, direct, manage and review the activities, operations and staff of the Public Works Department; coordinate assigned activities with other Town departments, and outside agencies; and act as a key member of the Town’s Senior Management Team.

The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Civil Engineering and be registered or licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario; have five to ten years’ of progressively responsible municipal experience managing engineering and/or public works operations in a unionized environment. Alternatively, candidates with a college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology; certification from the Ontario Association of Civil Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) and the right to use the Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation; and extensive closely related municipal experience, may also be considered.

An ability to act strategically in a political and community service environment with clear corporate goals and objectives is a must. Additionally, candidates must have excellent financial management, budgeting, interpersonal, organization, communication, prioritization, problem-solving, and leadership skills; thorough working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other applicable safety-related legislation, regulations, guidelines, standards and best practices; a Class G driver’s licence in good standing and a reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
